I was planning to make my first-ever trip to Boston and I wanted to read some history in preparation; this book was to be part of my prep. I found it to be much more interesting and easy to read than I thought it would be. It includes people with whom anyone somewhat familiar with American history will know, and some of whom most have never heard. With respect to those who are well known, the book gives insight into the problems with which they dealt and the actions they took that are not common knowledge. It gave me a knew perspective on the early days of the American Revolution, why the Americans decided to fight, and why they thought they could get what they wanted (which changed as the siege of Boston progressed).Product details

I liked being able to read american history as told by the people who were actually responsible for our separation from England and designing our great country
After visiting Lexington and Concord on vacation, I was looking for something to give me further insight into how things started and what came next - in more detail than basic school texts. This book fit the bill - and speaking of bill - there was none - it was a free ebook!
Really enjoyed reading about this part of US history. For the colonist to stand up to a King really measures a person's beliefs and bravery. The book does a nice job of developing the background issues and problems that led up to the start of the conflict. Very glad that I read this.
Very good descriptive view of the events leading up to the Revolutionary War
Worth your time. Especially for the price. You are drawn into the action and characters. It helps I grew up in Massachusetts and have read Ketchum's book on the battle.
This was a very good book. I learned many details of the siege of Boston that I have never heard. The only sad part was it ended--I wanted the book to continue to the rest of the war.
This is the best book I have read so far on the early Revolution. Allen French did a excellent job of presenting the facts without a lot of personal thoughts or slants to the story. He also did a fantastic job presenting both sides of this struggle. He showed not only what was going on on the American side, but also the British
Allen French was the David McCullough of his time and I hope I am able to find more of his books to read.
